How Large is a Rat Territory?

You may found rats all around you because they prefer to live with humans where they can get free food and shelter too. You may also found them on the farm, city, garbage, subways, and anywhere where humans are.  Availability of a rat into your home is alarm they are going to destroy your property, and they contain various diseases, they may spread their poop all over the house, direct contact with the rats cause also cause several issues. They will try to live near the food.  There are a variety of rats all over the world. Their color and size depend on the climate and food. Some of the rats are larger, while the other is just equal to a thumb. All of them have various qualities like black rats are excellent climbers; they can even climb the rough surface very easily. On the other side, the brown rat is famous for jumping vertically more than 77cm.  Most of their time, they spend in search of food, and you may wonder to know they cannot live without water access. 

How big is a rat territory? 
They generally mark their territory like other animals by use of urine. They have a specific scent in their urine, which they use to mark a place as a territory.  You may not see this type of behavior in the male rats, as they do not feel the need to pee all over the house or place to mark their territory. Most of the time, they just produce the scent of a specific place or cloth to mark their territory.  They usually mark the territory with the use of urine when they shift to a new living place, and they may adopt this habit for several days until they did not make sure other rats are aware this is their living place, and they did not get into that territory. Female rats also use their urine to mark the territory.  They did not only use the urine scent to mark the territory; the other purpose is to inform others or for the search of mating. But major reason to urine is they announce their territory to the other ones. 

How far they travel from their territory to search for food?
Although rat prefers not to travel too much, they choose the places where they can find food and water in excess, but on a need, they can travel to other places. Usually, they travel for 75-100 feet to search for food. In case of food shortage, they can travel long to find food. There is also a possibility they may shift to another living place where they can find food in excessive amounts.  Like mice, they sleep at day time and stay active at night time to search for the food.  If you find them in your house, there is a possibility they may destroy your property by eating or by use of their waste. You can use a trap to get rid of them, but use the trap at night time to get good results.
